Harbour Skating Club hosts adult (18+) public skating at Harbour Station most Mondays November to March.

Currently, Harbour Skating offers the only adult EVENING skating in the region. Local musician, Ron Maloney, provides live music. Any type of skate – hockey, figure or speed skate - may be used. Currently, skaters range from novice to veteran, from young to senior adults.

The Tradition

Adult recreational skating is a long-standing tradition in the Saint John area dating from the days of the Victoria Skating Rink (opened 1865) and the Victoria Skating Club. After that, Saint Johners have skated at the Forum, the Lord Beaverbrook Arena, the Peter Murray Arena and for the last 20 years at Harbour Station.

The Music

Skaters have enjoyed a variety of music providers over the years. In the late 1800’s, the Victoria Rink provided a brass band to serenade skaters. In that tradition, the Lancaster Legion Band and the St. Mary’s Band provided “beside the ice” music for adult Saint John skaters until the 1980’s. Later live music continued with organists/keyboarders Pat Graham and Gordie Miller. And for the last 20 years at Harbour Station, Ron Maloney has kept the rafters ringing from his perch above the ice.
